The Lodges appears on Casualty!

Imagine our surprise when one of our eagle-eyed  residents spotted The Lodges on the BBC Casualty programme on the opening credits!

We wondered what drama was about to follow…but rest assured there was no emergency at The Lodges!

Whilst the programme doubtless retold various dilemmas and illnesses in this episode of the record breaking TV series, The Lodges can proudly confirm that it is still 100% Covid free – which is a real life story that would make a very positive TV story.

We continue to take every effort to ensure that our residents, staff and families are kept safe during this difficult time.

Fish Friday courtesy of Yans Cardiff.

Yans fish and chipsIt’s not all doom and gloom in care homes. Tydraw Lodge were delighted to be treated by Yans Fish and Chips in Cardiff to a fabulous fish dinner – completely free – for all the residents and staff.Yans fish and chips

Yans unexpectedly brought it to the care home which was a tremendous surprise and was so appreciated by us all. Apparently the fish was donated to Yans and if we knew who who they were we would thank them too!

The wonderful gift created such a great evening in the home and everyone really enjoyed the fish feast!

Despite the lockdown the atmosphere in the homes is terrific with the staff passionately ensuring that all residents have the very best quality care. So far the home has managed to stay free of the virus after a very early lockdown.  We have managed to obtain PPE for everyone and even have supplies to wear outside when we visit supermarkets for example.  However we are in no way complacent as we continue to be vigilant at all times to look after our residents and staff.

Thanks again to Yans fish and chips.

Dawn Richardson Adult Nurse Practitioner joins the Lodges

Dawn Richardson Nurse The Lodges CardiffWe would like to welcome Dawn Richardson Adult Nurse Practitioner to the Lodges.

During these unprecedented times of the Covid-19 Pandemic we need to do our upmost to reduce the risk of infection within the Lodges. We have therefore decided to employ Dawn as our Nurse advisor and Nurse Practitioner. Dawn will be solely in charge of daily nursing duties that would previously have been performed by the District Nursing Team.

Dawn will Liase with the DN Team and GPs to ensure the service is safe and effective.. This will greatly reduce the footfall through the Lodges by outside agencies and therefore reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19.

Dawn will play a vital role in keeping our Residents and Staff safe and well.

Nandos show their appreciation to our care staff – Thank you

Nandos show kindness to care home staff
Nandos rang us totally out of the  blue and asked if they could make a free delivery to our care home with lunches for all our staff.  This spontaneous gesture of appreciation for our very overworked staff was a wonderful surprise to us all and was really appreciated.
Nandos show kindness to care home staffWe have the most rigorous preventative measures in place within the homes. Staff were issued with hand sanitiser and gloves to use outside of work 5 weeks ago. We have had the strictest of protocols in place for 3 weeks.
The Lodges have been in business for nearly 40 years and during this period we have seen some very challenging times, but none more than at present. With such acts of kindness, as shown by the staff of Nandos, will ensure that we have the strength to get through this most difficult period.
Thank you Nandos!
